Maui Rides the Lightning

Maui had the pleasure of catching a very rare lightning storm on 2-23-11. What made it rare, for Maui, was the fact that it wasn't raining, allowing photographers like me to go out and photograph the event. Here's a bit of what you missed:

Rhymefest In Chicago City Council Runoff

Grammy-award winning rapper Che "Rhymefest" Smith has made it into a runoff race for a Chicago City Council seat.

With all precincts reporting, the rapper had 20 percent of the vote, trailing incumbent Alderman Willie Cochran, who had 46 percent. Since no candidate got more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two advance to the runoff.

The rapper, who's lived in Chicago for years, vowed to pick up support from three other candidates who did not make the runoff. He had received backing from the city's powerful Chicago Teachers' Union. His platform included bringing green business to the 20th Ward on the city's South Side, which includes some of the poorest neighborhoods in Chicago.

Rhymefest won a Grammy in 2004 for co-writing "Jesus Walks" with Kanye West.

Nike Dunk Low "Vintage Pack" Release Date

The latest “vintage” Dunks to pop up are truly vintage, in that they’re retro versions of a particular set of Dunks that released in the earlier 90’s as a Japan exclusive. The shoes each favor aged, slightly warped leather on the upper, each following the same general color-blocking of one color on the overlays, a contrasting color on the side panel and toebox (and a bit on the tongue and collar), and white on the midsoles. The colorways are truly eye-catching as each shirk the occasionally conservative style of Dunks in favor of loud, vibrant combinations. Check out looks at each under the cut, and look for the Nike Dunk Low Vintage Pack release date on February 28th at very limited retailers.
